This is fairly accurate. The coagulation system goes "wacky" and forms
microscopic clots throughout the body. As a result all the clotting factors
are used up, so to speak, leaving none to stop bleeding after surgery or
injury. There is little that can be done unless it's caught right away, and
even then it's iffy.
