Subject: Check BG or wait?

I've recently taken in a rescue who by all accounts was in a reasonable home.
It was a teenagers pet and when the teenager lost interest Mom took over but
admittedly was not ferret knowledgable. The ferret arived clean and with a
bag of good quality food, looking like a reasonably healthy ferret.
When I filled her food bowl she gorged and has rarely been away from the food
bowl in 24 hours. I'm dying to check her blood sugar as when I took her out
for play time she fell asleep in the middle of the floor after about 10
minutes but I'm wondering if it's ok to fast her for several hours. I've taken in
plenty of sick and starving ferrets but I've NEVER seen a ferret at their food
bowl like this. Should I wait and see if the eating slows down?
