I have written earlier about Lenny's long year so far and his IBD biopsies =
and the removal of a right adrenal gland in February. He had been so sick t=
his year and just under 2lbs when he had his surgery. He recovered well an=
d was playing and happy to eat without getting sick. The problem was a lum=
p found during his re-check. It was in the area of his intestines. We were =
not happy about this because he seemed better than ever. Our vet said it co=
uld be any number of things we discussed but we put him on pred .75cc two t=
imes a day for the IBD treatment and he was doing great. After several more=
visits to check the lump and about 4 weeks later the lump was still there =
and we sceduled surgery again. The 1st surgery was not done by our vet but =
another very skilled vet within the same practice. He did a wonderful job b=
ut the lump turned out to be a sponge he left behind from the surgery. My v=
et did the second surgery and she made the phone call to me. I will not go=
into details of that conversation but they apologized profusely and I was =
happy it was not another tumor. My problem, is since the second surgery Len=
ny went from a crazy happy boy to a lazy boy. By this time last year we wer=
e out about every night going for walks. My vet loved Lenny's appearance be=
cause he was so lean and muscular, he is approx 20in long and usually 3 to =
3 1/2 lbs. Our annual visits are in the summer and by that time he has shed=
his winter fat. This year in the east coast the winter was brutal and the =
spring was very rainy and cold and we were not able to go for walks. Beside=
s that he had to recover from 2 surgeries. Now he is shedding like crazing =
and all he does is eat, play a little and sleep. He was 5 in March and is =
about 3 1/2 to 4 lbs. I am happy that he has gained his weight back, and th=
en some but should I be concerned with the lack of energy. During our annu=
al visit last month she tested his blood sugar. It was a little low but wit=
hin normal range. Can a ferret eat so much and be happy that he is not sick=
that all he wants to do is eat and sleep. Now the summer has finally come =
but it is about 95 out and to hot to go for walks so inside we stay as me a=
nd my husband practically jump through hoops to keep him and Trixie enterta=
ined. He looks great and he hasn't vomitted or had diarrehea since Februar=
y. Could his timing be screwed up because of the surgeries. He is very seas=
onal. Lean in the summer and big furry and lazy in the winter. Or is he jus=
t slowing down because of his age. Any info would be appreciated. Once ag=
ain Thanks

Roseann
