According to every vet I have talked to it is NOT true. Lupron and/or
melatonin can reduce the symptoms of adrenal disease in many ferrets,
but the tumor(s) keep growing. Lupron and/or melatonin are good ideas
for ferrets with adrenal disease who are not good surgical candidates.
Surgery, though, is the only cure.
I should also point out that lupron becomes more expensive than surgery
within a year or so. If you're looking to save money, this isn't the
way to do it.
Of the nine ferrets Keith and I have now, all between the ages of 4 and
9, three have had their left adrenal gland out, one has had his right
adrenal gland out, and one has no adrenal glands at all. All of them
are happy, bouncy, and doing well.
The usual disclaimer applies: I am not a vet, nor do I play one on TV.
All the best,
