Haivng been there I am going to mention one more possibility -- albeit a long-shot one -- we and others have seen unexplained weight loss as the first symptom of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This is the less common and harder to diagnose form. In her case it was found because we and our vet were throwing up our hands in dismay and went ahead and had a full body ultrasound done. As soon she got her heart meds in her weight loss reversed. This is not common but it is something to keep in the backs of your and your vet's minds as a possibility if other possibilities just aren't panning out.
