I've also been told that whole blood reads approximately 10 points lower than spun down blood. I use the at home test to have a general guideline about my Insulinomic's level. From your description, your ferret definitely seems to be suffering from Insulinoma.

When having a BG check at the vet's office, make sure they process it very promptly. As the blood sits, the levels decrease. I received a phone call last week, after taking my 6.5 year old in for pre-op blood work, telling me that her BG was 26. I told the vet tech that she was mistaken, and we'd be in the next day for a retest. Turns out someone forgot to run the test, so it sat from 11am (when it was drawn) until approximately 5pm that day. The true BG reading was 99 - which is a far cry from 26.

My Insulinomic also suffered from a very enlarged spleen, that antibiotics didn't help decrease - she had it removed yesterday during an exploratory and is recovering well. My fingers are crossed for your little one.
