My female ferret (around 4 years) is booked for salivary gland removal surgery on Tuesday. It took a few months to uncover the problem with our vet. At first it looked like an eye problem as the eye kept bulging, but finally it was discovered she had a blocked salivary gland. The gland was drained, and we were sent home with a course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. Within days the eye was bulging, and the gland was again blocked. The vet recommended surgery at this point.

Has anyone had a similar experience? My dilemma is - should we try one more time to have the gland drained or go straight for the surgery? Our vet told us this is a first for him to see this in a ferret. I'm a bit nervous about surgery. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
