Mitzi is a 4 1/2 year old ferret that had a bilateral
adrenal in November of 2001. The left side was
removed and the right was cryoed. She was put on
Amoxi, Dexamethasone and Florinef.
A year and 3 mo. later, February 2003, I noticed hair
loss again at the base of the tail. They went in and
found that the right side had regrown, it was cryoed.
They also found nodules on the pancreas, and was
diagnosed with insulinoma. She was put on
Dexamethasone, Florinef, Lysodren and Amoxi.
2 mo later, April 8, 2003, she had no hair regrowth,
her nipples were were still red, I knew something was
wrong, they went in to find the left side had
regrowth, they removed it. They found no new nodules
on the pancreas. She was put on Dex, Amoxi, Florinef
and Lysodren.
3 weeks ago today, we went back to the vet, almost 3
months out from surgery with no difference in the
symptoms still. We decided not to open her up
anymore, but to put her on a high dose of Lupron for a
month...we have one week to go on it, with no change,
and we have decided after she is finished with it, to
discontinue it.She continues to be on dex to control
the insulinoma. My vet would be happy to give her a
Lupron shot, but has had absolutely no results with 10
females that he has used it on, but 90% success in the
males he has given it to...he started with 100
micrograms and moved up to Dr. Weiss's dose of 2 MG.
Is there any other option that we have missed for
Mitzi here?
Thank you so much,
Lynn Barker
