ECE lasts a long time and during the illness they can sometimes also
get secondary illnesses which may be what you are also seeing or the
ECE itself may be taking off more. When the secondary problems are
infections then it pays to try assorted antibiotics, including in
combination, to hit on something that helps, as happened once with
him. When the secondary problem is colitis then steroids help. It
is hard as heck to know what is what during that. When we
encountered such things our vet would first try antibiotics and in
all cases but one it was a secondary infection. In that one it was
colitis.

Be very careful that the ferret does not become dehydrated since that
can cause kidney damage which happened to Spot who got the colitis.
He had daily sub-cus but after the fact we all wished that he had
been on IV for a while, too.

Have you and you vet read the ECE write up on Dr. William's site at
http://www.afip.org/ferrets/index.html ?
