Hi Everyone,
Recently my husband and I had to attend a wedding in Pittsburgh and we had to
bring our baby- Bandit with us--because he's older and so fragile now that he
is blind and has insulinoma...I'm afraid to entrust his care in any non
ferret owning friends or family. Anyway, on the road trip--Bandit was not doing
well at all--he was pooping on himself and very very limp...Luckily, I was near
the vets--before we headed out and ran him to the vet---the vet gave his
sub-q-fluids (or a assistant did) and gave him some carafate and his BG thing
wasn't working properly--but we we're just there last week and Bandits BG was 26 so
I knew he was low. So on the way to the trip he was so lethargic when I took
him outside of the cage to go the bathroom--he just lay there--the only time
he would pee--was when we gave him his meds...because now its a reflex
whenever he gets his meds...I guess because he despises it so much. Anyway, after a
days rest for him and Gatorade...he seemed to come around more--the Karo syrup
didn't seem to help....but as soon as we started the gatorade we saw a
difference--it was amazing. The vet had suggested that to me over the phone and
also prescribed an anti-biotic for his stomach--he believes he has really bad gas
that causes him to be very uncomfortable and lethargic. Well, we're home now
have been now for a week or so--but today he's having another bad day--he's
limp---gave him his meds... (pred &proglycem& anti-biotic and carafate for his
belly)---tried put some Karo syrup on his gums...He's pawing like crazy at his
mouth and I know this is a sign of nausea and discomfort,,,what can I do
besides what I'm already doing to make my baby feel better??? Could
gastrointestinal problems cause such pain and lethargy--because my vet seems to think that
aside from the insulinoma that's whats really bothering him. Please any
feedback is so appreciated...if any of the vets could please comment as well....
Thank you in advance,
Christina
