FOUR SLIDES PREPARED FROM ASPIRATION OF A LYMPH NODE
ARE EXAMINED.
MICROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION NOT REQUESTED.
CYTOLOGICAL INTERPRETATION
NEOPLASIA. POSSIBLE ROUND CELL TUMOR; UNREMARKABLE
PERIPHERAL BLOOD AND ADIPOSE TISSUE =

COMMENTS;
THE ASPIRATES ARE OF VARIABLE CELLULABITV. THREE
SLIDES CONTAIN ONLY ABUNDANT PERIPHERAL BLOOD AND A
VARIABLE AMOUNT OF EXTRACELLULAR FREE LIPID. =

PRESENT IN ONE PREPARATION ARE MODERATE NUMBERS OF
NEOPLASTIC CELLS. THESE CELLS ABE ROUND TO SPINDLE
SHAPED AND INDIVIDUALLY ARRANGED. TOE=BB HAUE A VARIABLE
AHOUNT OF BASOPHILIC CYTOPLASB WHICH OCCASIONALLY
FORMS WISPY TAILS. THESE CELLS DISPLAY EVIDENCE OF
ATYPIA INCLUDING ANISOKARVOSIS, MULTINUCLEATION AND A
VARIABLE NUCLEAR:C=BBTOPLASMIC RATIO. THESE CELLS
DISPLAY CRITERIA OF BOTH A ROUND CELL AND NESENCHYMAL
CELL POPULATION. THE CYTOPLASMA OCCASIONALLY CONTAINS
SMALL NUMBERS OF FAINT, PURPLE GRANULES WHICH RAISES
THE CONCERN FOB A POORLY DIFFERENTIATED MAST CELL
TUMOR. OTHER DIFFERENTIALS WOULD INCLUDE AN ANAPLASTIC
ROUND CELL TUMOR OR SARCOMA.
THE MARKED PLEOMORPHISM OBSERVED. IN THIS POPULATION
PRECLUDES A MORE DEFINITIVE DIAGNOSIS. NO LYMPHOID
TISSUE IS OBSERVED IN ANY OF THE ASPIRATES. THIS IS
BELIEVED TO BE A MALIGNANT NEOPLASM HOWEVER,
HISTOPATHOLOGY IS NECESSARY TO FURTHER DEFINE IT.
