Subject: Enlarged kidney- UK ferret

Shelley ferret,6 years old, has been treated for insulinoma for about 6 mon=
ths with prednilsone. About 3 weeks ago there was a deterioration and the p=
red was increased to 1 tablet a day (30mg?). This helped but wasn't enough=
.=

At the vet surgery she was discovered to have an enlarged kidney, blood in =
the urine and faeces. She was given an injection of anabolic steroid and s=
ome antibiotics 30ml a day. (Baytril)

After 6 days we returned to the vets as Shelley continued to deteriorate. =
She had lost weight again and could only walk a few staggering feet before =
lying flat. She was given 2/3 days and as she showed no pain or distress, =
was still eating, drinking, wanting to explore etc I brought her home.

It is now 4 days later and although she is weaker, much weaker, she still w=
ants to be out and about, see what's going on, eat and drink. Although eat=
ing is becoming less. She is on no medication now at all.

My question is..what should I do? Should I try to find another vet for a s=
econd opinion? Or am I just a ferret mommy who's not facing up to the inev=
itable? I hasten to add that she seems to be in no pain and is as laid bac=
k as she always has been. I'm just worried I'm not doing the best for her =
at this point.

Thank you to anyone who is able to help me out here.
