"Shelley ferret,6 years old, has been treated for insulinoma for about 6 mo=
nths with prednilsone. About 3 weeks ago there was a deterioration and the =
pred was increased to 1 tablet a day (30mg?). This helped but wasn't enoug=
h.
At the vet surgery she was discovered to have an enlarged kidney, blood in =
the urine and faeces. She was given an injection of anabolic steroid and s=
ome antibiotics 30ml a day. (Baytril)"

I'm not a vet, and I certainly don't know what's wrong here regarding the r=
est of your post, but I wanted to comment on the amounts of meds here; 30 m=
g of prednisone is a lot-my Marley is on 1/2 of a milligram twice a day, th=
ough we may need to increase his dose at some point, 30 mg sounds like a lo=
t-I compound his meds using 5mg tabletsm, and we used to use 1mg tablets, t=
oo. Or perhaps it is prednisolone, which for all I know, is completely dif=
ferent in terms of mgs per dose.

And 30ml (30 milliliters) is a HUGE amount of liquid to be giving a ferret =
orally (I'm assuming it was a liquid compound of Baytril). The 30ml also d=
oesn't tell us what the DOSAGE (milligrams) was of thr Baytril (I know that=
can be confusing). When we give subcutaneous fluids to a ferret we typica=
lly do 60ml at a time. Was it 30 milligrams, perhaps? We use Baytril in 6=
8mg and 22.7mg tabs-was your ferret getting 1/2 of a 68 mg tab? Still woul=
d seem like a huge dose for a ferret...

I'm sure one of the vets here can shed a little more light on my questions =
about dosing. I hope they can also help you with the rest of your question=
! Good luck.

Just wondering,
