Did they use any premeds before putting this ferret under the gas? It is possible that the swelling could be caused by a premed injection if so. When we did my Shannon's dental cleaning, we must have hit a nerve with her premed into her muscle (ketamine and valium IM; her atropine was subcutaneous) and she was limping and walking on the TOP of her foot for a few weeks afterward. I felt like the worst mommy in the world that I may have paralyzed her foot (though my very experienced coworker did the injection-I guess it happens, though we're VERY careful) to get her TEETH routinely cleaned... but it was just a little neuritis and she's fine now. It actually didn't seem to slow her down much or bother her at all until it healed, either.
