our vet routinely draws blood from the jugular vein...how should i describe...front of chest, i guess you would call it the shoulder region? :) *always in my presence, of course!*. to date i've never seen even the slightest bruise in the area blood was drawn. we don't even shave the critter, just immobilize with a super scruff or, if critter gets wiggly, with the towel "burrito" method combined with the super scruff/holding of the body.
