Subject: Enlarged Spleen Antibiotic Treatment Question
Message-ID: <3437248.1060109941713.JavaMail.root@thallium.smartgroups.com>
Ok, I've posted before about my 5 year old ferret with the very early stages of asymptomatic insulinoma and a very enlarged spleen. He had antibiotics for a week and we thought his spleen felt smaller but then it seemed to get larger again after he stopped taking it. The vet said it felt the same to her, but we feel his spleen everyday and she doesn't. Anyway my question is how long should a course of antibiotics be given? I have read for two weeks. I know a spleen can be enlarged from just a low grade infection. When he has surgery for insulinoma we would like him to have his spleen out too because it seems to be a lot for him to drag around. My mother won't call the vet and ask for more antibiotics (Tibbie is my parents ferret so they have final say) eventhough I told her to. It would be nice to solve at least one of his problems!
