The problem giving HCG injections once the ferret
is in full heat and it doesn't work, is the fact the
ferret very quickly succumbs to aplastic anemia which
is impossible to reverse. Plus if no hob is available
it would mean certain death at that point.I think
Natasha asked the question, as she did not plan to
breed and therefore would not have a male vasectomized
or whole to take her ferret out of heat.
Your suggestion seems kind of risky, putting your
jills through so much, to get them out of heat, if you
don't mind me asking, why do you not just get them
spayed? Is it because you plan to breed them next
year?
I guess after seeing perfectly healthy and
beautiful ferrets die such horrible deaths from
prolonged heat, it seems that a simple spay performed
before the ferret reaches estrus, would prevent such
an uneccesary and terrible demise---Angela.
