If it is due to the prostate rather than stones then rerouting him is
uncalled for. If surgery is an option then removing the bad adrenal
is, because adrenal neoplasia almost always gets worse; adrenal
problems are not a seasonal thing. Removing the prostate is not the
route which ferret vets follow. Once the bad adrenal goes down then
the prostate normally does, too, unless it has been bad long enough
to become cystic which I doubt because you jumped on this fast. If I
recall right this ferret is only three and otherwise healthy, right?
If I am mis-remembering and he has health problems which make him
not a surgical candidate then he needs meds that are better suited to
his problem such as Lupron and Propecia/Proscar. Just giving
melatonin for this is like putting a bandaid on a major laceration.

It may help you to know that this is NOT UNUSUAL. Many people here
(including my hubby and I) have had ferrets with prostate problems
due to adrenal neoplasia who were easily cured by removing the bad
adrenal. Once the bad adrenal comes out the prostates go down on
their own.
