Our two ferrets have orange colorations on their skin. I have been told by
two vets that it seems to be only an over production in the normal
secretions of oil and waxy substances from their skin. This may be
possible, but I am still searching to find the cause. My other ferret never
had this. Our male has had the 'discoloration' for about a year and a half,
and our female, who we got last Sept, has had them for at least the last 6
mo. Some of it washes off, but the tail area is really stubborn and does
not. Neither has lost any hair or shows signs of being sick. I read one
comment online from a vet that said that he had seen similar discolorations
on ferrets with advanced adrenal disease - coincidence or cause? Since your
ferret has a bald tail you should check into AD if you haven't already,
since this is one of the symptoms. Hope this helps.
