I don't see why a bandage is necessary if the incision is not on the bottom where it would be dragged on the floor or through litter and as long as he doesn't bother it.
Mine have had plenty of surgeries from major abdominal to all sorts of lesions removed and they've never had a single bandage and they did just fine and healed normally.
