Chipper (my ferret) was diagnosed with coccidia on Thursday. His symptoms were weight loss and loss of appetite. He had been slowly losing weight for about 3 weeks. We have been hand feeding him chicken baby food. He didn't start showing real interest in the food until this Thursday. The vet took his blood Thursday night. He was only able to get a little blood and had to send it off. We just received the results today (Saturday). His glucose is all the way down to 43 and his potassium is at 3.5. He gave us nutrical and a syrup based supplement to help raise his levels. He said he wants to get him healthy from the coccidia before doing anything else. He doesn't want to assume he has insulinoma until he can be sure it isn't just the result of not eating enough and losing blood from the coccidia.
I know other writers have mentioned giving the nutrical to raise levels. Is that sufficient for now? I am worried about not doing enough. However, I don't want to put him on any additional meds if I dont have to. He is on albon and kaopectate (when needed) for the coccidia.
