I appreciate the post of Dr. Williams. Clearly, Beeker's symptoms were a complicated presentation which did represent a mystery until the pathology work was done. In many cases, these biopsies are not done nor has any surgery been done on these ferrets, making diagnosis very difficult, especially since medicine is as much an art as a science, in my humble opinion.

The question still remains, however, of what degree of recovery (under ideal conditions) can be expected of ANY ferret who has suffered such high fevers with possible concurrent neurological damage over a period of several weeks while an underlying condition(s) continue to wreak havoc on his body. This may be a question that other owners of previously very ill ferrets are wondering about as I am now..Even if the sepsis were successfully treated I do not entertain unrealistic hope for his future health or survival. I am trying to temper hope with wisdom..a difficult thing.
