A follow-up on Foster, who has been whining when pooping:
Went to vet's office and after an exam (including fecal analysis) suggested
severe inflammation/probable infection in the gut. He now has a prescription
for Flagyl. A private reply to my initial post talked about successful
treatment of a guy like mine with Flagyl.
Now the big problem: Foster, like most ferrets hates the stuff! Foster
seems to be able to detect Flagyl in the parts-per-million range. The
prescription label says to give 1.0 mL (2x/day) and I think I managed to get
about one-tenth of that down him last night (in baby food). This morning, I
weakened it to 0.2 mL Flagyl to about 3/4 jar baby food. He reluctantly
accepted about three spoonfuls of it (with scruffing) before deciding he
couldn't stand any more. Ferretone? After the first try, I doubt he could
drink the amount required to disguise the drug. So I'm still searching for a
way to give him the stuff.
I'm looking for any ideas among FHL'ers who have succeeded with Flagyl
administration. I'm not yet ready to give up on Flagyl, especially since
amoxicillin, and (on a separate occasion) Tylan, have both failed.
