Hi ! My name is Linda ...

I have a little MF male sable ferret too, his name is Cookie !

He had an adrenal gland surgery last month (August 06).
The first signs I have noticed (scratching and marking)were at the end of April ... He was 25 months old ...

At this time nobody seemed to believe me ... even my vet ...
I had a feeling it was adrenal disease but I was hoping it was not that ... So, I had started to read vet books, magazines, did
a lot of research on the Net, asked questions on lists ...

When other symptoms appeared, I didn't wait ... I went to see another vet, he did the surgery with success ! Cookie had a tumor on his left adrenal gland only : it was big as "your little finger tip" the vet said.

This new vet agrees with me, if we had waited longer, maybe the tumor could has been the same size, bigger, or could has spreaded to other organs ...

Well, what I want to tell you is : "Keep an eye on Sugar behaviors"! I don't tell you it's an adrenal gland problem, it can be another illness... But I have read somewhere that adrenal disease is possible even at 1 year old !

If your other ferrets don't act like Sugar... it can't be allergies ... to something new in your place !

Are you sure it's not the "shedding period" that has just started ?

Over here, East side of Canada, fall is coming ... and
"Scratching" is "IN" for ferrets !!!

You can search on FHL Archives here ...
Hope it can help you !

When he was at the Vet for his annual check-up last month the vet said he was too young to be adrenal and found nothing odd (my Vet is very much a ferret expert, and in fact teaches the Ferret class at a nearby Vet School).
