That's very interesting! I don't have a firm answer, but here is a bit of
an anecdote. My ferret Pumpkin (I've written about him before) has been
getting CoQ10 for about the same amount of time that we've known about his
chronic kidney failure. Maybe a year or two.
At the same appointment where we diagnosed his kidney problem, my vet
heard a heart murmur. I have had a few ferrets with cardiomyopathy, and I
started him on CoQ10 and taurine at that time, just in case it might help
his heart. While he has indeed gone on to develop full-blown
cardiomyopathy, his kidneys have been pretty much unchanged this whole
time, according to bloodwork and urinalysis. His creatinines range from
around 1.2 - 1.4 and his BUNs were in normal range until the most recent
time when he was dehydrated from the lasix.
Of course this proves exactly nothing. But it is interesting - I hadn't
heard previously that CoQ10 might be helpful in kidney disease.
Best wishes,
