Subject: Antibiotics to temporarily shrink an enlarged spleen?

Hi, everyone,
Kodo, one of my nine year olds, has insulinoma (controlled by pred) and
a hugely enlarged spleen. He is not a surgical candidate.
I've exchanged e-mail with Sukie and some years ago she had a ferret
with an enlarged spleen and heliobacter. She believes the ferret was
given amoxicillin and flagyl. The spleen size was temporarily
reduced.
Does anyone (Dr. Williams? Other vets?) have experience with
using an antibiotic, amoxicillin or other, to reduce an enlarged spleen?
It's causing Kodo mobility problems and pressing on/displacing other
organs. We're looking at this as a way to try and improve Kodo's
quality of life for whatever time he has left. Our vet never heard
of this and would like any information he can get from anyone with
experience. We'd also like to hear about any other possible
non-surgical treatment options.
Thanks,
Caity and the non-stop nine
[Quick clarification from Sukie: the ferret was under treatment and the splenic
reduction was noticed during treatment but if memory serves the reduction
was temporary as Caity mentioned. The antibiotics were not given with the
goal of splenic reduction.]
