Years ago there was a coccidia varient which fortunately seems to have died out. In that case some regiions pretty much had to be quarantined: not ferrets in or out and the origin apparently was on L.I.
It was a difficult varient to catch but almost all who got it had massive blooms which killed them.
So, coccidia can have nasty mutants but luckily that is rare.
I can not recall any mentions of blood glucose affects with that, but it has been quite some time.
Patty, I know you check the FHL Archives at http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org (which may helpwith diabetes stuff incase anyone else needs such info), but I wonder if in this case since that mutant was so long ago the FMl Archives at
http://listserv.cuny.edu/archives/ferret-search.html
may be more useful.
If it is another coccidia mutant then the treatment protocol used may help you and it should be in those files, plus quarantine again could be important. Back then quarantine was absolutely essential.
