Probably not, but think of it this way. Let's look at the human cold.
People get it and get over it, someone they gave it to gets it, and it
continues and some of these people then get sick again. Virus's are such
taht the body can build up an immumity and resist it, so in order to get it
again something within that virus molecule has to change. For Ferrets if it
truly weren't some change with in the virus it would be harder for this
recurrent problem to occur. What I mean is that there are too many cases
that well examined and tested ferrets are introduce into a household and the
others become sick. Why are there no other signs in the new ferret? Why
even with isoloatin for weeks or months before introduction do the others
still develop the ECE. It is a theory on my part but it has been the only
way to expalin this. I suppose you could see if any of the univerity
virologists have looked into this, but I finally used this as my theory
because of the number of times I have seen it, but the older ferrets
certainly are more likely to get a more severe case and sometimes
lifethreatening case. Hope this helps but you are right I have no proof. I
look at this theory as explaining why it is so hard to find a cure for the
common cold too.
