All my ferrets are few raw meat and bones now, whole ground/ minced or
chunked chicken with heart and liver added. I also add various supplements.
2 or so years ago, a friend's ferret was diagnosed with insulinoma, she had
hind leg weakness and was staring into space and didn't have much energy. I
suggested my friend put her on raw ground chicken and nothing else, no
kibble, no carbohydrates at all. For a whole year we were able to control
her blood sugar with this diet alone and she was fed only twice a day like
all my ferrets. Her blood sugar was stable! Then after just over a year
after diagnosis, the insulinoma had progressed to the point where Vicky got
1/2 mg of pred per day. This kept her stable for another half year and then
she sadly died of pneumonia... I also had 2 insulinomic ferrets who did
well on the raw diet. I've been feeding raw for almost 3 years now and have
not had a new case of insulinoma and finally have some healthy elderly
ferrets.
