Hi Claire,
Sounds like you have 2 qustions.
I.Yes, if he has problems he will have the
same Addison's signs as before; however,
if part of an adrenal gland or capsule (usually
the right gland) is still there it will regrow and
he will not need the pred. On the other hand, if
both glands are completely removed (usually
requires removing part of the vena cava with the
right gland) then he will likely require pred for the
rest of his life.
II. It usually takes some time (1-4 months) for the
new fur to come in. In some cases, where the ferret
was bald for a long time, the hair follicles may be too
damaged to regrow hair. I would give him some time
and watch for new fur.
