I had a ferret several years ago who did this and it
turned out to be tumors in his stomach that had almost
(but not quite) blocked off his pyloric valve. The
result was that food could only leave his stomach very
slowly. Apparently, if he overate and his stomach
couldn't empty fast enough, he would vomit. We were
new ferret owners at the time and didn't notice until
the vomiting got severe one morning. Even then, once
he emptied his stomach, he was his usual happy self.
If I remember correctly, X-rays with barium didn't
show a blockage but showed the barium moving out of
his stomach very slowly. My understanding, though, is
that this type of tumor would be very rare. He ended
up having surgery where part of his stomach was
removed where the bulk of the tumor was. Then the vet
stretched and snipped away at the tumor covering the
opening to the intestines so food could move out. He
never had any more problems with it.
