Got a question and need some advise. I have a young hob(5 months), Gimli,
that has a luxated hip on the left side. My vet would like to
know if anyone has ever done a FHO on a ferret vs. amputation. If so, what
success have you had? Possible plus and minus of doing FHO or amputation? He
has done an FHO on a dog before but never a ferret.
Hi, Scarlett, sorry to hear this.
I've done an FHO on a rabbit, but never on a ferret. In the rabbit it worked
well, and the owner was very well pleased with the outcome as far as pain and
mobility. I can see no reason why it would not work with a ferret. I've
also done amputations and have seen good results with that as well. I think I'd
lean toward the FHO, though, since if it does work he'd have the use of the
leg.
Just out of curiosity, is this little guy related to any of the girls we have
from you?
