I have seen it with a ferret with low glucose. I don't
know, but it can probably be caused by other things.
Best thing to invest in is a home glucose monitor, it
has been invaluable to me to check on ferrets whenever
I am in doubt. It would help your friend know how
the meds are working, and even get a grasp of how the
sugars run without a vet visit each and every time.

I use the freestyle monitor, I can get the sample
by a paw pad stick, and with practice the ferret does
not notice at all. I use a little vaseline and pull
up the lancet a little so it will go a slightly deeper than
on a human.

The strips are a fortune, but I can get them on ebay for
1/2 price and have had no regrets.

Tiny recently had surgery for insulinoma and is being managed beautifully on a
tiny dose of prednisolone daily. His owner has contacted me to say that Tiny's
feet become quite a dark pink, but after his Pred they return to normal colour.
I have suggested that he give the pred twice daily for the moment.
I can remember that this symptom has been discussed either on this forum or
the FML, but I can't locate any posts which give any reason for the phenomenon
or if it indicates anything at all.
