You should not wash a jill or the kits until they are weaned (stop nursing). If the kits get filthy, you can spot clean with a damp paper towel, but you don't want to destroy their special odor. Yes, new kits and nursing jills smell bad- you just have to live with it. It's that baby sour milk and poop smell thing...

There are many ferret shampoos on the market. I like Tomlyn's Tearless Ferret Shampoo (smells like almonds), but I have never had a problem with any animal shampoo cleared for kittens.

You should not use any human shampoo, including baby shampoo. Hair and fur are not the same, and human shampoo is too drying for fur.
