Quick question: are you sure this is a domestic ferret and not a wild polecat. Wales does have polecats and is one of the places where a red variant occurs. Are the eyes more toward the center of the skull than in most domestic ferrets? Does the ferret have very marked "eyebrows" -- these are well beyond what is seen in domestic ferrets. In fact, we had one from a fitch farm years over 20 years ago ago which some folks in Europe thought might have been 1/2 to 1/4 polecat because of her behavior, her eye positions, and her having such marked eyebrows that we named her Breshnev (spelling?) after the Soviet leader. I know she had other features of polecats besides those physical featuers and biting to the bone and holding on (We would get her off with a stream of water.), but off-hand I can't recall what they are. It may pay to search on those in general. I don't know. There are posts by Marie and others in Ferret-Genetics in Yahoogroups, and by Bob Church and others in
