I have two baby girl ferrets. Fiona is 11 weeks old and Mila is 12 weeks o=
ld. We have gotten them their shots on time and the last time we went for =
their shots (last Wednesday), the vet said they very healthy and that we we=
re taking great care of them. But recently (the last few days)Mila has bee=
n acting different. She still plays like normal, especially with Fiona, bu=
t the rest of the time, it seems like something is wrong with her. This di=
fference isn't that huge, but it is still worrying me. Both girls having b=
een growing and gaining weight, but recently I have noticed that that Fiona=
weighs more than Mila and she has typically been smaller. Fiona is not fa=
t, so I'm worried that something is wrong with Mila. We feed them kitten f=
ood (that has enough protein and all that other stuff), and we mix it with =
a few different kinds of treats (but most of their food is the kitten food)=
. We also give them canned ferret food that has ferret-tone in it. They a=
lways have water and we have also been giving them Ferret-vite. And all of=
this has been working fine until recently. I'm not sure if Mila is eating=
less because she is more discreet about it (she likes to take food to othe=
r parts of the room), but I know that she really likes the canned food we h=
ave been giving her. Today I noticed that she when in the litter box 4 tim=
es without going, and she went in three different boxes. It didn't seem li=
ke she was having trouble because she was never in their for more than 10-1=
5 seconds at most, it actually seemed like she gets too distracted or that =
she has a "bashful bladder" because after the fourth trip to the litter box=
and no results, I put her in her cage and she went right away, but it was =
a little less than normal. There are two changes that I should note though=
. Over a week ago, we added a new treat to their food (but I don't think i=
t is that because Mila seemed to LOVE it and has been fine until the last f=
ew days). The second change was that we started mixing a small amount of m=
oist kitten food (a tablespoon) with the moist ferret food. The first time=
we did that was yesterday and my fiancee said that she really liked the ne=
w food. Could it be the food? I don't know if ferrets are affected by wea=
ther changes, but last night at four am, I was able to go outside in shorts=
, sandals and a sweater and be perfectly comfortable and when I woke up aro=
und 11am, there were snow flurries, so there was a temperature change of ab=
out 30 degrees (I should also note that I live in the US in Ohio). But I a=
lso keep the apartment warm (around 72 degrees F) since I know they get col=
der easier. If anyone can give me suggestions, I would greatly appreciate =
it, I'm going to keep an eye on her, but I'm a worrier. Is it normal for f=
errets to have "off" days and not be as excitable? Thanks!
