Usually my vet starts at 1mg per kg of ferret.
My average male is about 2 1/2 lbs, so start
at 1mg of pred a day. Sometimes divided doses work
better than once a day. You can then go up from there.
Now, this is the imporant part, the concentration of
the med you use so you can tell how much a mg is in cc.

I have 5mg/5ml prednisilone ( so I give 1ml a day)
A friend has compounded prednisilone and has 15mg/5ml
so she would give 0.3 ml a day- so the amount you give
is not necessarily too little or too much, depends on
the concentration.

That is what I thought, so I held off until today and called the vet to ask which
one to give, he said either one it didnt matter. Dosage would be the same .60cc
(1/2 of a syringe) Seems like a lot to me. I just cant help second guessing
everything he says now that I am convinced he doesnt know enouph about
ferrets. I am going to take Bob to XX vet next week, but I keep thinking about
an earlier post, not to hold off on meds when their needed. I just want to start
out small. What is a usual first dose for suspected insulnoma?
