Subject: Red, swollen prepuce

I have noticed my 1 1/2 year old's prepuce is red and a bit swollen for 2 days. He is otherwise behaving normally, and I observed him urinate today without a problem. Can I keep an eye on him, or do I need to get to the vet straight away? (final exams right now)
Also, an incidental note: last winter he gained a significant amount of weight. This winter, he has grown his winter coat, however, he has not gained the weight. If anything, he seems a bit too thin. Is it already time to consider adrenal?
