I believe this is certainly true if a ferret is washed/bathed too
frequently. We do bathe when our ferrets begin to get stinky, typically
once every six weeks or so. With the shampoo we use (Kenic Ferret Gleem)
there is a definite reduction in odor and their coats come out just
beautiful and fluffy.

The only time we've bathed more frequently was when Kodo had problems
holding himself up in the litter pan and soiled himself badly or when, at
our old place, Adric managed to open the flue and our ferrets went up the
chimney. We has black ferrets after that, which meant bath time. We've got
great custom fireplace doors nowadays so that can't happen.

All the best,
Caity and the enthusiastic eight
