Well, there are colds and then there are colds...

True "colds" are rhinoviruses and as you know your vet would no give an
antibiotic like Amoxi for a nasal viral infection because that would be
useless against the virus itself (though she may for secondary
bacterial infections).

On the other hand, some people have just called bacterial sinus
infections "colds"; that happens quite often, and certainly not only do
ferrets get those but your vet would prescribe an antibiotic for them.

So, you see, your vet just used the term most loosely and did not
actually did not disagree with the past posts of Dr. Williams on the
topic or my echoing him (as proven by her using antibiotics) because I
specifically mentioned bacterial sinus infections which they certainly
can get. See places like

or
http://listserv.cuny.edu/archives/ferret-search.html
or maybe even
http://www.afip.org/ferrets/index.html
though I can't recall there being anything there on the topic
and perhaps also texts like
_Biology and Diseases of the Ferret_
since that goes into a number of the diseases they are known to be able
to get since it also is used to help researchers provide proper vet
care.
