Thrombosis? We've had a thrown clot to a leg behave like that. We used massage and at first they tried a little aspirin. Meltdown turned out to be overly responsive to anticoagulants, though, so in her case we could not use them.
When Spot threw one to his brain he also was comatose for a few days (though he healed with minor damage to one leg.
Spot had kidney disease. Meltdown had cardiomyopathy with arrhythmia (ventricular bigemini and a few trigemini)
