A vet told me also that in the case of something like
exploratory surgery for a blockage, the ferret loses a lot of
body heat because its body is open. Between the anesthesia
and the trauma of surgery it can be difficult for the
ferret's body to get back up to regular temp following the
surgery.
This same vet let _me_ be my ferret's heating pad post-
blockage surgery--I held her inside my sweater until her
shivering stopped and told her she'd pull through. And she
did :)
