Just an idea that has always worked for my guys if they were shivering post-op:

Rice Bags!!

They were suggested to me years ago and they have worked wonders on a chilly ferret. The heating pads get too hot, but the rice cools down overtie so it is leess risky.

Here is how I make mine:

Get a large ziploc bag and some rice. I put some rice in the bag and zap it in the microwave for a bit (not on high or the rice will melt into the bag. Lower power levels but for a longer time work best).
Then after it is nice and warm--i shake it up so the heat is evenly distributed then put the rice bag in a pillowcase and into the cage w/ the ferret. Laying the ferret on the rice bag with the pillow case barrier lets him be protected from the rice, but still have warmth. It gives me peace of mind that he won't overheat and if he doesn't like it, just having it near him/her is like a mini-portable heater. Just be careful you don't make the rice TOO hot!!

Hope this helps !
