Hello,
Please allow me to provide you with some background information regarding my 4 yr old ferret, Sheila, who had bi-lateral adrenal surgery on 12/3 (I traveled to an experienced vet for the surgery).
I brought her home on 12/4 and she seemed to being doing pretty well and was eating dry kibble. As the week went on she would only eat a/d and baby food. On 12/8 she became lethargic, so I broght her in to my local vet and she received a shot of Dexamethasone and IV fluids. When I brought her home that evening she was doing great and even ate a little dry food. Since then, she has not eaten anything but the wet food, and now will only eat a about 1/2 Tablespoon at a feeding and the rest I have to finger-feed her (she usually would eat 1 1/2 Tbsp.) She is still pretty active and wants to come out to play. I have seen her drink a little from the water bottle, but I don't want her to become dehydrated again, so I have been offering water by hand also. As last week went on she began to eat less and less, so on 12/12 my local vet prescribed .25 ml of 6.7mg/5ml Prednisolone b.i.d for 7 days and then to wean her off after that. I am puzzled as to why she has no appetite.
Today we went back to receive some sub-Q fluids and check her over, because she is still not eating by herself, but remains fairly active. I have read many of the post about florinef and percortin and discussed this with my local vet. He is searching for the ferret dosage and for information on these two drugs from veterinarians that prescribe them, as the experts that he has consulted have never prescribed florinef after bi-lateral adrenal surgeries, and his researching is not yeilding this information either. Please help.
Is it possible for my local vet to contact one of the vets on this list that has prescribed these drugs? He would very much like to discuss the findings and protocol with someone experienced in their use in ferrets. Thank you very much.
