Hi, Connie, and everyone else,
Our Pertwee had a kidney removed (nephrectomy) due to unilateral
polycystic disease in his right kidney which caused him tremendous pain.
He was just two years old at the time. He recovered quickly and there
was no need for special food or care other than what you would expect
after any major surgery. He was on antibiotics for a couple of weeks,
was rechecked by the vet, and was kept separate from the other ferrets
until his incision was properly healed.
Pertwee had three and a half very good years after the kidney came out.
We lost him due to liver cancer (unrelated) at the age of five and a
half.
With any luck Butch should be fine.
All the best,
Caity and the exuberant eight
