I have a 6 yr old male who has been having poop problems for 6 or more mont=
hs. I was labeling it diareah but I'm not so sure. It is extremely runny &=
light colored, but at the same time he seems to have some difficulty goin=
g and there is less of it in the last few weeks. He seems to have gas. He=
has taken numerous meds starting with antiobiotic, blood tests showing not=
hing and of course a stool culture. There has been no change in diet and h=
e really doesn't snack at people food other than Cheerios which he has been=
eating since he was a baby (and only a little snack of that). I tried giv=
ing him pumpkin pie mix but I have no idea how much is needed and he will o=
nly eat it off my hand and only if he is really hungry. That's no problem =
if I had an idea how much. No weight loss and is eating reasonably normal=
(as far as I can tell with 2 in the cage). It was based on the fact that =
he seems not to be declining in health that I decided to "wait & see" befor=
e continuing to spend $$ on a vet. I wouldn't mind the money if there were=
results or some idea of what was going on. My own doctor told me that ped=
ialyte just helps with dehydration, so I gave that a try. Bad idea. He spe=
nt hours trying to go (Saturday night 1:00 am of course) and finally gave u=
p % lay with front in bed while back strained to go. A couple hours later,=
when I checked he had stopped trying & apparently had relieved himself. I=
t has been since then that he seems to be going less & with more noise. So=
metimes just a little squirts out. It was recommended for my child when s=
he was little that I give her white Karo syrup every morning. It's not a m=
edicine but after the results from the pedialyte, I'm half afraid to try it=
. Would xrays be advisable? I'd like to try another vet, but I have no id=
ea who to try. (If there is anyone in the York, Lancaster, Harrisburg, Rea=
ding Pennsylvania area has a vet to suggest, I would welcome the info. My =
guy has a number of other ferret patients and I know he does ferret surgery=
, but none of the others in that practice know anything about ferrets.) His=
three year old cage mate is fine, though she doesn't want to use the same =
litter box. I would feel terrible if I stuck with wait & see approach (agre=
ed with by vet) & it turns out to have been a mistake. Any suggestions or =
opinions would be welcome. Should I try the syrup?? Could it hurt?? [exce=
pt for giving him a sweet tooth of course)
