Our one year old Pumpkin (a Marshall ferret) came down with a fever of unknown origin one week ago. Her latest white blood cell count was 14,000. Her chest x-ray was clear, and she doesn't have any swollen lymph nodes. She was hospitalized on Christmas eve for a few days, but the vet let us take her home because she is eating and drinking on her own and has no symptoms other than fever (ranging from 103-106). She is on Metacam and Baytril.

After reading the mystery disease posts, we are extremely concerned. Our vet, although very experienced with ferrets, can't put a finger on what is wrong with Pumpkin. Our next step was going to be a bone marrow biopsy for JL, but now it seems like we should pursue the mystery disease angle.

Any information about this disease, or what has been used to combat it (both successfully and unsuccessfully) would be very helpful. It seems like a lot of vets are using Baytril but it does not seem as though the Baytrin has worked.
