Hi,

>From what I understand in most cases it does not, but there are times when
the spleen can get so enlarged as to displace or put pressure on other
organs. In the case of my Kodo (9 year old lab bred male) the huge spleen
actually caused him major mobility problems. I don't know if that's due to
excess weight or pressing on something, and I also don't know how much of a
factor his insulinoma and age are or if there is some unknown medical issue
contributing.

I do know that our vet has indicated that if Kodo were younger and stronger
he'd remove the spleen. What we have done is give Clavamox twice a day for
three weeks on, two weeks off, which seems to reduce his spleen quite a bit
and restores his mobility.

If you go through the archives you will see my posts about Kodo, and also a
number of excellent responses from when we were deciding what to do for him.

The usual disclaimer applies: I am not a vet. I am just relating my own
experiences with the issue.

All the best,
Caity and the exuberant eight
