Dear Friends,
I have a little girl who has diabetes that is very hard to control. I check
her and she's at 395, I give her 1/2 unit insulin and she'll be OK for 6
hours. The next time I check her she can be at 395, I give her 1/2 unit and she'll
go down to 20 within a few hours and stay lower for 12 hours. I can check her
again, she'll be at 395, I give her 1/2 unit and shell be Ok for 5 hours.
Although she's all over the place, I've got it pretty much under control, I just
check her often and do what's needed accordingly. Now, she's due for her yearly
shots. Do I need to do anything differently than I normally do? Can the
diabetes cause a worse reaction? I always space her vacs apart and wait a couple
hours at the vets. Also, she has a growth on her leg that the vet believes may
be a mass cell tumor. She didn't want to do anythng to it unless our little one
has some other life threatening condition that would require her to be put
down. I'm concerned because this tumor has gotten much bigger. Has anyone had
any experience with putting a diabetic kid under? I'm making an appointment
today for vacs and to talk about the tumor again but wanted to hear from you
first. I am going to suggest to our vet that if she doesn't want to do it she refer
us to the U of GA. At least for a consultation. Is there any advantage in
going to the U? I know our vet is concerned about putting her under because her
diabetes is totally unpredictable and all over the place. We've been tracking
her and dealing with it at home and the vets since May.
Thank you in advance for any info you can provide.
Most sincerely,
Tiffany, Slinky and Cindy
