If it is a mast cell tumor then the chances of malignancy in a ferret
(as opposed to some other species) is about nil. Only one malignant
one has ever been found in a ferret and that one was internal. When
you think of how common mast cell tumors are that makes the risk about
non-existent if it is a mast cell tumor. Usually they are removed to
make sure that they aren't something much more rare, and to reduce the
itching and reinjury.

Honestly, if it is something else you'd have to consider if anything
could be done anyway with an individual who is already so compromised,
and need to weigh the chance of it being something else compared to the
risk of doing anything invasive or with meds which might be
counter-indicated by the existing diabetes.

When there is a hard balancing act sometimes you are best off doing
nothing about a secondary thing which isn't the limiting health factor.
It's a hard balancing act with the very sick ones, as i know you
understand.
